THE DIGNITY PRINCIPLE

My most purposeful pastime is an evening walk about the slums. It's something I love and dread at the same time. You are not sure what you may encounter, good, bad ,ugly- it's just a thrilling adventure.

As I walk in deep meditation I am moved with the hustle, pain and drama that surround me. Sometimes I cry when I see I foetus dumped in the garbage, sometimes I laugh at the staggering drunkard who is more than friendly, sometimes I watch domestic violence in the public arena, sometimes I close my eyes in guilt when the crippled beggar shakes the few coin collection as I near him. I dread the vagrants sniffing glue who want to give me a Golden handshake of sorts. I won't betray my feelings though they play a dirty game with me at such times. I feel the people, am touched with their humanity, I see their dignity.

I compare my experience from the poverty stricken neighborhoods to the urban throb. I behold the  luxury,the hype and the heartless professionalism. Am excited since that's the dream I was taught to dream and strive for. I admire its efficiency . However, am vexed with it's ineffectiveness to satisfy my hungry soul,I want the whole world but the world won't give it to me. I hate the frustration, the corruption and the hypocrisy. I see the pain,the hustle and drama in life . I feel the stress, I see the despair ,am touched with the constant humanity that craves after dignity.
